Listen up: if you aren't familiar with the blog Largehearted Boy , you're pretty much a shamlama-ding dong. It's a great music-focused site that also features news from the worlds of literature and pop culture.
One of their ongoing features is a series called "Book Notes," which invites authors to write about how music influenced their work, or how it's used or portrayed in their stories. My friend and fellow author Jamie S. Rich hooked me up with the site's editor David Gutowski, who invited me to participate, which was a true honor. I love the concept of the series, as I actually create "soundtracks" for all of my books - as well as my everyday life.
Example: my backdrop this morning - after listening to the WTOP traffic report of course - was a combo of New Radical's "You Get What You Give," Joseph Arthur's "Blue Lips," Trembling Blue Stars, "The Rhythm of You," and Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues."
Anyhoo, my "Book Notes" essay was posted today, so check it out. I had a great time working on this - the hardest part was narrowing down what songs to expand on within the actual piece. I also love how David highlighted my challenge to Zach Braff - bring it on!
And in honor of this occassion, the first five people who post a response will get a copy of unofficial soundtrack for THE GIRL I WANTED TO BE - both the "Then" and the "Now" versions - burned and handcrafted by yours truly. Track listings for each version can be found here, or for those who are lazy with the click throughs:

Four comments already - did I make it in time?
Oo! Ooo! Mr. Kott-aire! I would like to have a copy of this sound track thingy.
My current copy of Baby Come Back is hard to listen to because it's on the cassette I used to record it off of Casey Kasem's American Top 40 Countdown. Yes, I'm that old.
(I think I show up as anonymous, but this is Steve in Seattle.)
Curses! Did I get beat out for the 5th spot because I was choosing my words carefully? Wait, Doug has two entries, so maybe I'm still in?
(Steve in Seattle again)
Boys, boys, boys. Everybody settle down! I'll make sure there's enough to go around for everyone.
I just realized I'll need actual mailing addresses too - so if you are seriously interested, email me at sgm@sarahdisgrace.com. Booya!
